VineyardsThe Vin du Lac Estate is 34 acres of prime orchard land first farmed in the 1920's. We still farm 10 acres of apples, but in 2002 we planted "Michaela's Vineyard”, named after Vin du Lac Muse, Michaela Markusson. A dozen varietals were planted as Larry experimented to learn what would best suit the Lake Chelan climate and terroir. Approximately 25 tons of wine grapes are harvested from Michaela's Vineyard each year. Vin du Lac also sources fruit from several other vineyards in the Lake Chelan AVA, Wahluke Slope and the Yakima Valley.Major Varietals and Wines from Michaela's Vineyard: Riesling (LEHM) Sauvignon Blanc (LEHM) Pinot Gris (LEHM) Chardonnay (Barrel Select) Pinot Noir (Red Cafe) Syrah (Red Cafe) Merlot (LEHM Chelan Rouge) Cabernet Sauvignon (LEHM Chelan Rouge) Lake Chelan Growers/Vineyards Lake Chelan's unique grape growing characteristics were recognized in June of 2009 when the US Government granted designation as an American Viticulture Area ("AVA"). Although a summer destination, Lake Chelan is by far the coolest and most unique of all the Eastern Washington grape growing regions. Our unusual climate allows us to offer exceptionally crisp white wines, and brighter, leaner, red wines that have their own character but are reminiscent of the wines of old Bordeaux and the Northern Rhone. Vin du Lac will continue to expand its focus on Chelan fruit and varietals as more and more vineyards come on line. We believe Lake Chelan will offer the most distinctive wines on the West Coast, and we intend to feature them!
